DeColores is a non‐denominational, Christian organization that subscribes to the Nicene Creed. Its’ mission is to strengthen personal relationships with Jesus Christ through semi‐annual men’s and women’s weekend retreats and regular “Fourth Day” activities. The Grand Rapids secretariat is one of many chapters in Michigan and other states.

No. In fact, those who attend a weekend are encouraged to become more active in their own churches.

DeColores uses Spanish words because of its’ origins in the Cursillo movement in Majorca, Spain (see the history page of DeColores).

Here are definitions for some of the Spanish words you may come across:

Cursillista: One who has attended and lived a Cursillo

Crusista: One who has attended and lived a DeColores Weekend

Each weekend begins on a Thursday evening and ends late in the afternoon on Sunday. All activities, including eating and sleeping, take place in the church selected to host the event.

The churches that typically host a weekend are not large enough to simultaneously address the privacy needs of both men and women. Moreover, experience has shown that men and women share their thoughts and feelings differently and that the presence of the opposite sex would discourage honest and open discussion.

All participants must be sponsored by someone who has already participated in a weekend. If you need someone to sponsor you, use the contact information on the webpage to make an inquiry.

No. All costs are covered by your sponsor or others in the DeColores community, as part of the gift of the weekend.

Those who attend a weekend are challenged to examine their relationship with Christ through a series of talks and discussions. Many describe the experience as a gift from God. But like all gifts, there must be an element of surprise. Revealing too much detail beforehand would ruin the many pleasant experiences that make a weekend so special.

Weekends are often referred to as “God’s time.” God, though, must have your full attention for the entire weekend – not just when it is convenient for you. It is for the same reason that smartphones and electronic devices are not allowed during a weekend.

All participants provide contact information in case of an emergency. Similarly, family members are given phone numbers they can call, if necessary to reach you.

The weekend team will try within reason to accommodate your particular medical and dietary needs. You may, though, have to supplement the planned menu with your own food. Your sponsor will assist you in coordinating with the weekend’s food preparers.

Singing, fellowship and meaningful discussions are all important parts of a weekend. Everyone’s participation, then, is highly encouraged. But DeColores asks only that you keep an open mind throughout the weekend. It’s entirely up to you as to how involved you want to be.
